Too Much Packing

After spending some time in my garage today, I have a new "wish". Pushing aside wealth, fame, looks, and knowlege is a desire to have packing materials reduced. Items for purchase should not come in large boxes with excessive packing. I could live without all the foam and crumpled paper. If you break something when taking it home, well then, you should be more careful! Does this post have a personal slant? Oh yeah, you [...]

Affirmative Action ... Stays in Action

Well the verdict is out. Even though the Supreme Court said that they found University of Michigan's undergraduate point based admissions model unconstitutional, they still left the door open for race to be considered as a factor for admissions. Sadly, this will keep affirmative action policies in use across the United States for many years to come. It is naive to think that there is no racism left in this country but I think it is a bigger mistake to think that affirmative action [...]

You Call That Funny?

The other day I finally finished watching Office Space for the first time (I know, I know). Watching any movie with my brothers always implies a fiery debate afterwards. The issue this time was about modern "comedy" and what is defined as "funny" with American audiences. We watched Mr. Deeds a few days earlier and the thing that bothered my older brother was that he thought some jokes were just too stupid to be funny (ie. "frost-bite foot gag"). I disagreed, it is stupid [...]

No Time

"Post often" is what everyone says. "More content" others scream. In the background some chant "let's start a business". What about "you need to get out more" and "help out with the housework"? Of all the things I could possibly want right now, the item at the top of my list is time. I contend that 24 hours in a day is just too little. I have a million ideas leaking out of my brain but never any oppertunity to develop them. And if [...]

Linux Upgrade

I've always wanted to update my outdated Redhat 7.3. I was not happy with Redhat 8, but I feel its time to go with the flow and upgrade. So I finally bit the bullet and installed Redhat 9.0 over the past 2 hours. I'm not very happy with it. Too many basic features are removed and there is quite a bit of bloat. I'm rather disappointed with the Gnome people for making such poor choices with the distributed applications. (Nautilus and Metacity are pathetic.) [...]

Blogging

For those of you who do not know what a "blog" is, I would like to offer a definition. A blog (short for web log) is simply a webpage with short and frequent posts in the form of a diary or journal. As Blogger.com states: ?Blog posts are like instant messages to the web?. That notion characterizes blogs quite perfectly. The one thing that all blogs have in common are that they are in some way personal. Which is unique since it provides an [...]
